hi, i'm peter. thanks for stopping by.

Work

FREELANCE  Earth
Writer/Creative Director [2017-Present]
I do the same thing I've always done, except I do it at coffee shops, strange offices, in bed, at the park or wherever people want me. Sometimes I work with a partner who makes the work good. His name is Dave Steinke. Check out our team site, and give us a try. I’ll give you my best, or we'll give you our best. Promise.

VERY BAD TEES  Boulder
CEO, CMO, CCO, Designer, Intern, Teemaster [2019-Present]
Yeah, I’m a writer. But I’m also a frustrated designer and a fan of obscure t-shirts. I made this site to sell shirts to myself and other people who appreciate what I’m doing. Check it out.

UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO  Boulder
Adjunct Professor [2017-Present]
Over several semesters, I've taught Copywriting, PR writing, Creative Concepts, Story Design, History of Advertising and an Introduction to Advertising Creative. I'm passionate about passing along the craft of strategic, effective creative work as well as giving students as much of a "real world" view as possible.

DENVER AD SCHOOL  Denver
Instructor [2022-Present]
I’m honored to teach hungry young creatives at a place I wish were around when I was starting out.

HUMAN DESIGN  Boulder
Creative Director [2022-2024]
Guided and wrote for clients including Land O’Lakes, JanSport, Kitman Labs, The Good Crisp Company, EcoVadis and lots of others.

FORTNIGHT COLLECTIVE  Boulder
Lead Creative [2019-2021]
One of the first two creative staff at the agency. I touched nearly every project, guiding freelance creative teams to keep the quality high. It was also a chance to shape what a modern, nimble agency should be. From branding and identity to social strategy to full ad campaigns, I wore many hats and loved it.

CRISPIN PORTER+BOGUSKY  Boulder
VP, Creative Director [2014-2017]
Associate Creative Director [2009-2014]
Most recently, I was Creative Director on Kraft Mac & Cheese, Velveeta and Lay's Kettle Cooked aside from helping out on other clients and new business.
For two years, I oversaw a sub-department of creatives (called the Post Office) who just work on social ideas. Everything from tweets to huge ideas that get people taking notice and sharing. Clients included: Best Buy, Domino's, Fruit of the Loom, Infiniti, Kraft Mac & Cheese and Velveeta.
Before that, I worked on projects across all media, creating integrated campaigns for clients including Applebee's, Best Buy, Bing, Domino's, Kraft Mac & Cheese, Microsoft, Old Navy, and Triscuit.

RAZORFISH  New York
Creative Director  [2007-2009]
I was brought in to help build a new advertising capability. Over two and a half years, I helped build a group that won clients like Mercedes-Benz, AXE, and All Detergent. I also did work for Capital One, T Rowe Price, Partnership for a Drug-Free America, Sheraton, Westin, and Morgan Stanley.

MODEM MEDIA  Norwalk, CT
VP, Creative Director [2005-2007]
VP, Associate Creative Director [2003-2005]
Senior Copywriter [2000-2003]
I was Creative Director on Delta Air Lines, including everything from web ads to the SkyMiles program to the dot com. During that stint, I also helped to define their low cost carrier, Song, start to finish. Some of my other clients included Heineken, IBM, Kraft Foods, JCPenney, Citibank, and General Motors.

BBDO  New York
Consumer Healthcare Division (HMC)
Creative Supervisor [1999-2000]
Copy Supervisor [1997-1999]
Copywriter [1995-1997]
It's here where I cut my teeth on some of the most challenging stuff to write well. I learned the fundamentals from old pros from BBDO, DDB, and Wells Rich Greene who birthed "From A to Zinc," "Merrill Lynch is bullish on America" and Robitussin's "Dr. Mom."
While there, I wrote the world's first pharmaceutical TV spot with the list of horrible side effects (for Depo-Provera). Stuart Elliott wrote about it, the Wall Street journal called it mind-numbing, and I was on my way. I also worked on Alcon Vision Care and Pfizer products including Zyrtec and Bain de Soleil.

What do I do in my spare time? I design t-shirts that maybe only I would buy.

Teecycleit.com
I love t-shirts, but I have too many so I run a used t-shirt site on the side.
